Hurricanes, high winds, thrown and flying objects, and intentional break-in breakage and the subsequent broken glass damage and injuries are the primary detriment to glass windows. Window films have been shown to hold window glass together, much as the windshield of a car, although it breaks, most of the time it sort of all ‘hangs together’ rather than shattering all over the place. This is a built-in safety feature. Certain films have such tensile strength that hurricane strength winds will blow the window in, frame and all, without the glass actually shattering.
